Eternal Love

Loving someone or something is a natural feeling of every human being. One may deny the presence of this feeling in the soul, but it is for sure that one can never avoid it. Added to that, being loved is a bonus point. To love and be loved at the same time can undeniably be the best thing in life.

Here is a plain question. Did you ever love someone so much but unfortunately that person did not love you back in return? In Malay’s idiom, we call it ‘cinta bertepuk sebelah tangan‘. Well, that feeling really hurts. Then you attempted to ‘reset’ your feeling back to ‘neutral’ mode, no matter how hard it was to do so. It took quite a long time but then, you managed to heal the wounds and finally that feeling disappeared.

The analogy above is an instance of temporary love. When we love someone or something that belongs to Allah, the love will sometimes fade away from our feelings. Then is there any eternal love that exists on the face of the Earth? The answer to that is a big yes. That is the love towards Allah and His last Messenger, the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

As stated earlier, love is a natural feeling. It comes naturally. Yet when it comes to this eternal love, there is one matter that goes together with that natural feeling. It is called effort. Undoubtedly, the Almighty puts that feeling of eternal love in every human being, but the other processes are up to us to either strive to gain more of it or vice-versa.

So how can we gain the love towards the Almighty and the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)?

First things first, it is a must for us to practice the obligatory matters of a Muslim – for instance: the five pillars of Islam – and do a lot of religious things like reciting the holy Quran. Next, we ought to attempt to gain knowledge and learn about Islam. This includes understanding the contents of the Quran and the Sunnah, knowing more about the Almighty and the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and being in the circles who can lead you to the right pathway of Islam. Furthermore we can gain the love by being sensitive and observant to the surrounding and environment. Sometimes those little things around us can light our hearts and make us love the Almighty and His Messenger even more. Who knows that the moment you realize the ease of your entire life as a Muslim will make you feel thankful and at the same time gain the love?

Another serious question pops out. Why should we love Allah and the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)?

It is due to the fact that the Almighty had beautifully created each and every one of us and His last Messenger had sacrificed everything just for the deen and his ummah. So we should be very grateful of that and as in return, we should sincerely and eternally love the Almighty and the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and express the feeling in the way of our lifestyle and action. Who are we to not even love Allah and the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) as much as they do? Nonetheless, this love is such special and of course eternal one, as the love will ultimately be accepted. There’ll be no such thing as heartbreak, sadness, bleak life and the list of all the cliché temporary love matters goes on.

After all, this is the number one love that can tremendously help us to live a happy life in both worlds – dunya and akhirah. Let us all attempt to be the best lover of the Almighty and the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) who lives a life according the holy Quran and the Sunnah and does all the good deeds for the sake of Him. Indeed, no thing is way wonderful than to love and get loved.

Last but not least, why should we opt for the temporary love while there is eternal one that has become our priority in this world? Admittedly, it is not even wrong to love His creations, but we just need to make sure that our love towards them does not exceed the level of our love towards the Almighty and the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Buckets of love,

Shakeeb S.
